This is Gugan. He's from India and works at our local Green Beans coffee shop! We had a nice chat today about his previous employment in the Maldives, the pay in these places compared to how much he can make at home, and even talked about his fiancé he'll be heading home to marry in about a year and a half. It's been interesting chatting with people here about what brings them here, whether from America or other parts of the world. Money is probably the number one reason, but there are a few other interesting ones as well.
We went to pick up laundry today and saw this guy with the awesome 'stache! I try really hard to get candids, but it's really difficult here for some reason. I guess they just really like to smile at the camera! Laundry turn-around is pretty awesome. The sign says 72 hours, but you can count on it being done the next day. It's a definite bonus not to have to worry about it while we're here. Free non-MRE food is nice too. 🤙🏻
The days here get insanely hot. The weather guy has briefed 'will feel like 116º' and at times the aircraft parts get hot enough to burn you through your gloves! 'Feels like 102º' becomes a 'cool' day that brings relief. The other day the weather guy briefed that it'll be 97º later in the week and another pilot asked if we should keep our cold weather gear handy! 😂 They say the middle of August will be the time it starts to cool off and I hope they're right. I'd give anything for some snow right now!
