It was tough to pick this photo because I had so many good ones from the beach! We went out for a walk today and ended up on a beach covered in coral. Old, dead coral that had been beat by the waves for years. We didn’t notice right away, but there were tiny hermit crabs everywhere! Some were dime size, some were fairly large. I walked around taking picture for quite a while and found this one clinging to the coconut. It’s not the biggest or most impressive crab I saw, but I like the sprouting coconut with the little crab sitting on top!
I’ve never been much of a beach-goer… It’s too hot (when you’re out of the water), too many people are in my way, almost impossible to get a good photo, and sand gets everywhere! But this place is amazing! Fine, powdery white sand, virtually empty of people (I think we saw 6 others the entire afternoon), even the water wasn’t as salty as I’m used to. We jumped in and swam around for a little bit, then walked down the beach to the marina watching the little crabs scurry around and beach combing for shells. After some Mongolian BBQ we turned in for the evening. I don’t know if I’d want to be stationed here for too long, but a layover for a few days is pretty stinkin’ cool!
