During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain in 1776 actually occurred on July 2, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia declaring the United States independent from Great Britain's rule. After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the wording of the Declaration, finally approving it two days later on July 4. "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. Though it took us a while to get to our final destination, I'm thankful the trip for us wasn't as long as our stuff! Containers have been rolling in a few at a time for many weeks. Big Dave has been doing a great job getting everything signed for and delivered to our area. If only we could figure out how to get that pesky gate open!
I have a feeling I'll be posting more pictures like this in the following months. It's not a place I'd normally describe as beautiful, but it does have a certain beauty to it at times. It's been so dusty and hazy it takes a bit of adjustment in LR to get the contrast and color to come through. Hopefully it'll clear up one of these days so I can get clearer photos! Maybe if we're lucky we'll get to head across the border again!
