The days here get insanely hot. The weather guy has briefed 'will feel like 116º' and at times the aircraft parts get hot enough to burn you through your gloves! 'Feels like 102º' becomes a 'cool' day that brings relief. The other day the weather guy briefed that it'll be 97º later in the week and another pilot asked if we should keep our cold weather gear handy! 😂 They say the middle of August will be the time it starts to cool off and I hope they're right. I'd give anything for some snow right now!
I walk past this place every day but didn't notice all of the signs until just a few days ago. Tulelake, CA is a tiny hole-in-the-wall where my mom grew up! We spent a lot of time there on the homestead as little kids, riding the 3-wheeler (SO dangerous!! 😳 Yet somehow we all managed to survive to adult-hood), playing on the old farm equipment, learning how to shoot, and learning how to drive a manual in the old Chevy Luv. Grandma worked at the potato factory in Newell so we always knew we'd be having some sort of spud for dinner! We could always count on vanilla wafer cookies to eat and rattlesnake heads in the freezer as well! 😂 Catching lizards in the back yard, borax powdered soap and sitting in front of the wall furnace on cold mornings... Lots of really cool memories from that place! Only 7373 miles away...
